At last I have found the perfect medium for my illustrations.
Recently I have taken up Pyrography, and now Slate Paintings are adding to the illustrative art mediums that are really working for me and some are now appearing in my Etsy shop.

Illustrations on a pieces of found slate in Suffolk are influenced by many different trees – so far they are the silver birch (my tree of hearts) the bonsai red berry tree (my white berry trees), wind blown trees on the moors of Yorkshire and trees in the moonlight.
The pieces of slate I’m working on at the moment are in the region of 4x5cm to 10x9cm with a thickness of 3-5mm. They are all washed and sterilised thoroughly before applying paint. The paint is waterproof, lightfast and permanent.

They are proving to be quite popular with lots of great feedback.

Well, theres a lot going on here!

Since The Silent Landscape exhibition finished I have had 2 days off camping, and then back into the swing of it all! I am currently working on 3 canvases for Suffolk Showcase, an open exhibition starting July 4th at the Bury St. Edmunds Gallery. Then I have 2 more to do for another open exhibition at The Halesworth Gallery in September. Meanwhile I’ve been working on an unusual commission, a clay hare, which is turning out very cute and successful.

Yesterday I had a meeting with Natasha Newton about another exhibition we’re planning for Christmas. I can now reveal some details. It will be entitled, “Enchanted Earth”. It will be held at The Cinema Gallery in Aldeburgh, 17th – 23rd December, with a Special Event on Saturday 19th. (More to be revealed about that later). All the works will be 12×12″ and smaller, making it an affordable art show.

Finally, I am putting together a book of the body of work I produced for recent exhibition, The Silent Landscape. It will be a simple paper back book, affordable, and a wonderful reminder of the show, and a keepsake for those who visited, and for those who weren’t able to come. I will be using Lulu.com and I’ll let you know when its ready to buy. :)))

So thats all the news here at the moment. I will be very busy for the next few weeks, and I will keep you updated as much as possible.

Now its time to photograph, document, prepare the sides of the all canvases, varnish, apply hanging wire, create info sheets, order postcard prints, and post the invites for the private view. Phew!
Its only 4 weeks to go now too, so there’s still lots of other stuff to do too….

In a couple of weeks I’ll put the whole body of work on here so you can see them all together.
Back soon 🙂

This has come out well and will be put in the exhibition in May (The Silent Landscape).

I am now working on a new one inspired by Steven Heaton’s wonderful photo (he has given me permission). You can see it here

I’ll also be tweaking a couple of other paintings and photographing them. This happens sometimes – paintings are done, but one has to live with them for a while before the final decision is made.

Back soon with more updates.

The Silent Lanscape exhibition looms ever closer.  Today Natasha and I completed the designs for the posters, flyers and invites and sent it off to the printers.

This is the main design:

tsl-poster-jpgMy next task is to update my personal website.  That will be done in the next few days, and then when all the flyers etc arrive it will be distributing time!

Meanwhile the easel calls  – I’ve still got paintings to complete :))

Yes, I’m obsessed with Autumn, its colours and its atmosphere!!
Anyway, here’s the new one 🙂

autumn-morning
I was pleased with this because the metallic colours worked – it covers a large area of the painting and I wasn’t sure if it would be too much. I just love using rich autumnal colours and metallic paints. I’m now working on a new one in a similar vein – to be posted shortly 🙂

I’ve enjoyed restocking my etsy store with new items and its now looking really fresh and vibrant.  I’ve added 2 new painting/illustrations this last week or so to make a set of 3 lovingly painted quality wooden panels  measuring 20x15m (8×6″).  They are all leaf based designs, and have nice imprint patterned backrounds.  Here they are:

I will be doing some more small canvas next whilst I work on the larger paintings for The Silent Landscape exhibition with Natasha Newton.  I’ll post some new ones up here soon 🙂
